An Wei grew up in the bosom of a typical traditional Chinese family in Madrid, and spent almost his entire childhood drawing on a table in a restaurant, surrounded by spring rolls and Cantonese rice. One day a steady customer asked if he liked drawing and painting. He then presented An Wei to a painter in the area, who taught him everything he knows today.
When he just started out as an artist, his work was often minimalistic and monochromatic, black and white. Gradually, he introduced colour to his pieces. The subjects he depicts in his work are often related to the orient and Arabian cultures.
