DALeast is a Chinese artist whose unusual paintings, which are often countless meters wide, appear as if they were created out of thousands of tiny metal shards, but in fact they have been spray-painted onto a flat surface. Animals are the main subjects in his artwork, typically depicted in two disconnected parts, often disintegrating at the centre or falling away at the sides. Every piece contains one specifically chosen colour, perfectly suited to the environment, bringing the subject to life. The use of this so-called fractured imagery with contrasting backgrounds serve to give his art a breath of energy and soul that can sometimes be lost in art when creating subjects in a rather sombre theme. DALeast has spent most of his life traveling around the world, leaving his mark on walls in countries on every habited continent.
