21 utility boxes in the Wilrijk districts of Oostverveld and Elsdonk were given a colourful makeover by various street artists. Legendary folk singer Ferre Grignard was also honoured there.
This edition of Tour Elentrik had no less than 3 themes on which the local Antwerp artists could work. Colourful animals was the first theme, because a lot of streets in the Elsdonkwijk carry animal names. The second theme was the Olympic Games. One hundred years ago, during the Antwerp Olympic Games, the track race was held in this neighbourhood on a velodrome (now demolished). A tribute to Ferre Grignard is the final theme of this Tour Elentrik. In the Valaarwijk district, two electricity boxes are given a drawing referring to the folk singer, who grew up here.
Soon, lovers of street art will be able to discover the creations on a walking route that will be mapped out. While doing so, visitors will also be able to discover the districts of Oosterveld and Elsdonk.
