Mauro 'Muretz' is an artist based in Sao Paolo (Brazil) mostly known for his street art work. He began working in arts at the age of 16 as a freelancer after getting expelled from school and had to start earning a living doing exactly what got him kicked out: drawing. Around 18 and pressured by friends and family, young Muretz enrolled into college studies but got frustrated shortly afterwards and abandoned the course. Later he left his country to go to London, where he could more easily make a living working with passion. After this time and another attempt at the school system, Muretz returned to his home town and started painting on the streets. His works have since been featured on graffiti and street art publications, even tv shows, magazines, newspaper and articles around the world.
Muretz uses simple strokes and solid colours to portray his comic characters, sometimes in awkward situations, but always in a thoughtful and inspirational way. His style is a big contrast to the standard graffiti that is common in the local scene: instead of screaming complexity and colours, or repetitive and aggressive graffiti tags, the focus lies on the content and ideas he wants to get across with his piece, while leaving the form always simple and clean. The result is a unique and fun style, inspired by playful and imaginative ideas.
