Sam Scarpulla is a multi-disciplinary artist with Italian roots, residing in Ghent (Belgium). He is well known for his lino-cuts and his mostly abstract murals that have a great affiliation to something called ‘neo-tribalism’. You can recognize these artworks from miles away by their tight black and white colouring and playful subjects that often come with a message or carry a whiff of critique, created on the best fuel there is for an artist: music. His main philosophy is based on two key concepts: movement and engagement. It’s clear from the first glance that his artwork always suggests a certain flow or motion that allows the spectator to use their own fantasy in order to find out the meaning behind the contrasted shapes and lines.
