tattoo & street artist
Sometimes you have only one thing in life that can keep you busy. For Squid, that’s art. As a kid, born near Boston (MA), he was already exposed to street culture and graffiti. He moved with his parents to Belgium in the late 80’s, and thanks to the traveling nature of his family he was able to witness many classic and surrealist masterpieces.
Later on, he graduated in comic book design in Ghent, Belgium. He took on a job in pre-press advertisement, but soon realised that this was draining his creativity with no time left for his personal projects.
If you can call it a turning point, this would be it. Before he knew it a solo show was organised and the first large scale projects were set up. Later that year he became co-organizer of the 9000 miles art/music tour that ventured throughout Europe.
Ever since, he shows his face at mural festivals worldwide (Wynwood Miami, Mural in Montreal, Paris, Shanghai) and is practicing his art form on a small scale in his own tattoo studio in Ghent.
His style is unique in every way: Each piece of art tells its own story, where main characters are figures in shiny metal armor, Samurai knights, Mexican warriors and pretty much everything in between. Often there is one distinct element: a mask. It makes everything just that little bit more mysterious.
