"Couleur Quartier" Elementary school Pee en Nel mural by Julieta XLF
Couleur Quartier is a project that will be realized during the easter holidays of 2020. Elementary school Pee & Nel, the city of Leuven, Treepack, Scholengroep11 and many other helping hands will support the creation of a mural by Spanish artist Julieta.
There are three main focus points of this project.
In this suburban area of Leuven, many people of different origins live together. Many of the kids here go to this elementary school. We want to put this perfect mix of people in a good daylight, by involving characters from all over the world in the mural. Simultaneously, we create a good example for the children, showing that harmony between people in society is certainly possible.
The artist Julieta often works with whimsical characters, but often infuses this with flora and fauna elements. The children here live in a very concrete-like environment and often don't have the chance to 'be' in nature. Integrating nature-like elements in the mural will give them just that little extra enjoyment of what mother earth has to offer us.
At the moment and definitely in the past, many drivers of motorized vehicles speed through this street. Extra bikelanes have been marked on the road, and speed bumps have been introduced. Unfortunately this had very little succes. This mural will certainly draw the attention - not just by the sheer size, but also the vivid brightness of the colors - of all passers-by, and hopefully also the speeders!
And on top of that, we just want to give the residents, pupils and visitors of this area and school a nice environment.
Our artist - Julieta - is currently in the process in creating a design.
"Kom op voor je wijk"
This project is (mainly) sponsored by a project named "Kom op voor je wijk". It was started by the city and has had many succes stories so far!
The concept is as follows: your neighborhood is in need of something new. The residents who have an idea are encouraged to create a dossier that explains the concept. This can go from murals to painting electricity boxes, putting plants on the facade or even mini-wall-libraries where locals can trade their books. Endless possibilities!
When the dossier is sent and approved, a sum of money will be sent to the coordinating party (often the residents) to execute the planned ideas. Residents are allowed to hire external contractors such as Treepack, to create their wishes. Et voila, another glorious mural!
Feel free to ask us for more info via the contactpage, e-mail or phone.
The images in this gallery are basic impressions to give you a certain look and feel of the end result. These are by far not the final results.
