The Fresh Brick of Bel Air

If you have never heard of barbells or bumper plates before, not to worry. We stay in shape by painting every day of the year ;-).
However, many people enjoy 'crossfit' these days. A combination of ropeskipping, cardio, weightlifting with kettlebells, healthy foods and much more elements that are adapted from other sports. A killer combo for keeping the body in shape!

The Brick Antwerp - a good looking and mighty comfy fitness space - opened up a second venue dedicated to the people who love and enjoy Crossfit. To keep your focus during these intense workouts, you need all the distraction and inspiration you can get to keep moving forward! To get that party started, we threw in our good friend and artist/illustrator JangoJim, who lined up a load of funny characters and drawings themed in a 90s 'Fresh Prince' style with splashy colors and good vibes only.

The result: a unique venue where all elements are completely integrated with a layer of art. A colorful story on the walls, combined with five bright colors that are visible on all weights and sports equipment. Add some black, white and brick to that mix and you have a great environment that can keep you going.

You can visit The Brick Crossfit during opening hours at Scheldestraat 11, next to November Five - Antwerp. Follow the neon lights.

About the artist

Did you know this guy is friends with Will Smith? Fueled by coffee, self-taught artist Jangojim tries to improve the world by making happy silly colourful graphics by means of illustrations, comics, paintings, animations and murals. He also writes for TV. He has already exhibited in Antwerp, Brussels, Berlin, San Francisco, LA, New York and Tokyo.

For any project, good creative ideas and graphics must go hand in hand. He loves making dull or difficult subjects more fun, and creates iconic visuals infused by pop culture that immediately catch your eye. Colour and humour are very important factors.

To get inspiration, he devours movies, comics, art books, comedy, exhibitions and travels a lot. Influenced by 50s and 60s Pop art (Beatles Yellow Submarine), Psychedelic and outsider art, classic Japanese woodcuts (Hokusai), vintage animators like Max Fleischer (Felix the Cat, Betty Boop), the clear line style of Hergé (Tintin), iconic musicians like David Byrne, David Bowie or Django Reinhardt. Directors like David Lynch, David Cronenberg, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Jan Svankmajer or Wes Anderson.

Apart from the ‘regular’ illustration work, he created his own 2D-animated international series Elvis & Benny (aired in 2018), a Jango Comix compilation book, several mural projects and a new exhibition.
